Connecting Wayne County Means Freedom to Get Around in a Way That Works For Anyone

Wayne Countywide Transit Expansion is Not About Buses. It’s About People.
Expanded public transit can create a healthier, safer, and more connected county for all of us. While some of us ride transit, all of us need it.
Transportation Choices for 350,000 people
350,000 Wayne County residents live in areas with few or no options for getting around if they can’t drive. Many of these people live in outer suburbs and rural areas that have very limited paratransit. Expanding transit means freedom to live.
Freedom to move for seniors, veterans, and youth
Veterans, seniors, youth, and people with disabilities all can’t drive for various reasons. Improved transit gives these people a dignified, independent way to access their lives.
Opportunities for everyone
Transportation options give people access to work, school, social life, and community. Imagine how hard it’d be to get to your life if you couldn’t drive. For some of our neighbors, that’s life – but we can change that.
Health Impact
Better transit means cleaner air, safer streets, and easier access to healthcare. Commutes to hospitals and clinics will be easier for patients and workers alike, and commutes will be safer with less cars on the road.
“I just want the people in our community, the differently abled community, to have the same rights and access that other people do.” – Kim Snider, Livonia resident

Education Access
Transit connects students and families with schools, colleges, and training programs. Options beyond driving mean students get to class, travel is safer, and families are confident education and training opportunities are accessible across our entire metropolitan region.
Opportunity & Equity
Every town should have equitable access to equal opportunities with equitable transportation. Better transit connects residents to schools, jobs, and their community – regardless of zip code. Seniors, veterans, youth, and anyone without a car gets more freedom to move.

Benefiting Our Businesses
Countywide transit options give workers access to more jobs and give employers a larger pool of job applicants to choose from. Transit options means even if a worker’s car doesn’t work, they still can. Additional jobs will be available to residents as transit drivers, dispatchers, and administrative support.
Every Community Will Benefit
Wayne County is made up of 43 unique communities, each with unique designs and needs. Countywide transit will benefit every community in its own way.
